XD stands for Extra Drop. Long walls measure 1.95m from the awning track to the bottom hem, compared with 1.80m for standard Campsmart long walls. The range also includes end walls and kitchen screens, with mesh, waterproof and dual layer options available across selected styles.

Before ordering, measure your setup and check the privacy screen size guide to find a screen that suits your awning.

What does XD mean?

XD stands for Extra Drop. An extra drop privacy screen hangs further down than a standard screen, measured from the awning track to the bottom of the screen.

A standard Campsmart long wall has a 1.80m drop, while an XD long wall drops 1.95m. That extra 150mm can make a difference on off-road caravans and RVs with higher-mounted awnings.

End walls have a different shape to long walls. For example, an angled XD end wall measures 2.4m high at the van, tapering to 1.95m at the outer edge.

The important thing is to measure your awning rather than assume the extra drop will suit. Check the distance from the track to the ground at your usual setup height before choosing a screen.

Which XD privacy screen is right for you?

Start with what you want the screen to do. Mesh is a good choice for shade and airflow, while waterproof and dual layer options provide more flexibility when the weather changes.

FabricWhat it isBest forLimits
XD mesh (grey or black)Shade mesh; long walls are rated 95% shade and UV tested to AS 4174:2018Shade, privacy and airflowNot waterproof
XD waterproofCoated woven polyester instead of meshKeeping rain off one side of the awningNo airflow, so it catches more wind than mesh
XD dual layerA mesh layer and a waterproof layer in one wallChangeable weather: roll the waterproof layer up for airflow or down for rainCheck sizes on each product page

The XD range also includes screens designed for specific awning positions and styles. Materials and fitting methods vary, so check the individual product details.

Other XD screensWhat it doesCheck before buying
XD end walls and pop-top end wallsClose in the end of the awningFull-height and pop-top vans need different versions
XD kitchen screensShade a camper trailer's kitchen side, such as the Jayco Eagle and HawkFitting to a sail track needs one on the trailer, and some older models lack it
XD Fiamma and box awning screensLong walls for box awnings such as the Fiamma F45s4mm spline; won't fit a roll-out awning

If you're combining walls, it's worth sticking with the same range and colour. Grey shade cloth can vary between brands, so matching screens from different ranges may not give you a consistent finish.

How to choose your XD screen size

Once you've decided on the type of screen, check the measurements carefully. The right size depends on your awning, not the overall length of your caravan.

For a roll-out awning, measure between the centres of the two awning arms. XD screens are made slightly narrower than the awnings they're designed to fit.

XD screen (roll-out)Awning it suits
2.8m10ft (3.05m)
3.1m11ft (3.35m)
3.4m12ft (3.66m)
3.7m13ft (3.96m)
4.0m14ft (4.27m)
4.3m15ft (4.57m)
4.6m16ft (4.88m)
4.9m17ft (5.18m)
5.2m18ft (5.49m)
5.5m19ft (5.79m)
5.8m20ft (6.10m)

Box awnings use a separate size range. For example, a 3.85m XD box screen is designed to suit a compatible 4.0m box awning.

You'll also need to check the attachment system. Roll-out XD screens use a 6mm spline (the cord that slides into the awning track), while box awning screens use a 4mm spline. These sizes aren't interchangeable, so confirm which awning type you have before ordering.

Not sure which size? Check the size guide or ask the Campsmart team.

What's included and how to fit your XD screen

XD long walls come with guy ropes and pegs, and most include a carry bag. Along the bottom edge, D-rings (metal loops) and eyelets on reinforced tabs provide attachment points.

For a typical XD long wall:

  1. Set up and roll out your awning.
  2. Slide the screen's spline into the awning track, then position the screen as required.
  3. Attach the guy ropes to the fixing points.
  4. Peg the ropes securely into the ground and adjust the tension evenly.

Some screens can also be set up horizontally on poles to extend the shaded area. Poles aren't included, so you'll need to supply suitable ones. Browse Campsmart's poles, ropes and pegs if you need extra equipment.

End walls and kitchen screens use different attachment methods, so follow the instructions supplied with your chosen product.

Keep in mind that a screen extended horizontally catches more wind than one hanging straight down. Take it down when strong winds are forecast, and retract the awning when conditions become unsuitable.

Warranty and returns

Warranty periods vary across the XD range, so check the details on your chosen product page and read Campsmart's warranty policy.

It's also worth checking your measurements and the returns conditions before placing an order. Campsmart's change-of-mind policy excludes all awnings and annexe/awning walls. Read the returns policy to understand the current conditions.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law aren't affected by a change-of-mind policy.

Frequently asked questions

What does XD mean on a privacy screen?

XD stands for Extra Drop. Campsmart XD long walls have a 1.95m drop, compared with 1.80m for standard screens. The extra 150mm can help provide ground-level coverage under higher-mounted awnings.

What size XD screen do I need?

Measure between the centres of your awning arms and use the size table to match your measurement to a screen. For example, a 4.0m XD roll-out screen suits a compatible 14ft (4.27m) awning.

Box awnings use a different sizing range, so check the relevant product listing and measuring guide before ordering.

Are XD privacy screens waterproof?

It depends on the type. XD mesh screens are designed for shade, privacy and airflow, rather than waterproofing. For extra rain protection, choose a waterproof XD privacy screen or a dual layer screen, which lets you roll the waterproof layer up or down as conditions change.

What spline do XD screens use?

Roll-out XD screens use a 6mm spline, while XD screens designed for box awnings use a 4mm spline. They're not interchangeable, so check your awning type and the product specifications before buying.

Can I use an XD screen on a lower caravan awning?

You can, but measure from the awning track to the ground first. If the track sits lower than 1.95m, the extra material may bunch on the ground. A standard 1.80m screen may be a better fit, depending on your measurements.

Do XD end walls fit pop-top caravans?

Not every XD end wall will fit a pop-top. The angled version is designed for full-height caravans, while pop-tops require a separate square-cut version. Check the listed dimensions against your awning before ordering.

Find your XD screen

Start by measuring your awning and confirming whether you need a roll-out or box awning screen. Then compare the XD mesh, waterproof and dual layer options to choose the XD caravan privacy screen with the right mix of coverage and airflow for your setup.

Use the privacy screen size guide to check your measurements, or contact the Campsmart support team if you'd like help choosing the right screen.
